How Much Does Legal Cannabis Cost In Uruguay Pharmacies?

Uruguay became the first country on the planet to adopt a national adult-use legalization measure when lawmakers legalized recreational cannabis in 2013. Uruguay’s legalization model permits adults to register to cultivate cannabis in their private residences, to join a cultivation association, or to register to purchase cannabis from pharmacies.

The latter option, purchasing cannabis from pharmacies, became available to the nation’s consumers starting in Uruguay in 2017. Adult-use cannabis flower sold through Uruguay’s licensed pharmacies must be sold at set prices, and the prices are adjusted on a semi-annual basis. Prices were recently adjusted by the Institute for the Regulation and Control of Cannabis (IRCCA):

The prices listed above are in Uruguayan pesos and are for five-gram units of cannabis flower. Converting prices from Uruguayan pesos to United States dollars, as of the posting of this article, works out to:

Forty pharmacies in Uruguay are currently permitted to sell cannabis flower. A reported 75,498 consumers have signed up to make legal purchases from pharmacies in Uruguay, in addition to 11,465 consumers registering to cultivate cannabis at home and 15,162 consumers joining cultivation associations.
